Spades (1968) Getting Ready For Public Pre-Alpha


We're currently deep in development editing the game so we can support a public pre-alpha, this includes registration so you can secure the display name you'd like to be known as. As with each dev post, heres the current dev log since the last:

  • + Adjusted the volume of some of the sound effects.
  •  + Fixed an issue with footsteps incorrectly playing while in the air. 
  • + Fixed a couple server sided disconnects.
  •  + Started down the path towards better error handling, rather than exiting or dying directly the client will now attempt to show an error message at the various stages of failure
  • . + Error logging is now only enabled during development, during production it's been disabled to keep frame-rates high rather than provide debug info.
  •  + Development resources are now based on a prefab system rather than hardcoded assets, more data is planned to be moved onto this style of system
  • . + Sounds are now loaded into a soundbank prefab, this includes trigger definition, sound addition / removal, and volume control per sound. 
  •  + Weapons and models are now prefabs, this includes the name, type, model, positioning and more, essentially the entire weapon definition is now a prefab.
  •  + Added a safe way to handle invalid / corrupt resources during loading, more expansion of this system will be implemented in the future (UIs, warnings, anticheats, etc).
  •  + This essentially means if an asset fails to load, place-holder data will be inserted in place.
  • + Wrote down the initial credits for the game and created a panel for it.
  •  + Added map updating (The entire game world will now update on demand)
  •  + The map will now randomly be selected on game start. 
  • + The map will now change every 15 minutes, along with resetting the score
  • . + Added the following weapons to the June 16th test: 
  •  + Ithaca 37 
  •  + Remington 870 
  •  + M1 Garand (Scope on / off) 
  •  + M1911
  •  + AK47 
  •  + AWP (Scope on)
  • + Escape properly closes the pause menu.
    + Escape properly closes the chat menu.
  •  + You can now auto-jump while sprinting.
  •  + Repacked the shaders and removed all of the unused ones. 
  •  + Added a font cache. 
  •  + Text inputs now work properly if there is more than on on the screen. 
  •  + Added a login and register panel.
  • + Skorpion, M1 Garand, M1911
  •  + Changes to the formerly implemented gun sounds
     + UI click sound
  •  + Generic ADS in/out sound
  •  + Generic swap sound for spade, pistol & rifle 
  •  + Generic ambience sound + lowered "land" sound volume to 0.7
